Die vielen übereinander aufgetragenden Schichten, bei denen die erste meist aus der Komplementärfarbe der zuletzt dominanten besteht, geben diesen monochromen Gemälden ihre besondere Tiefe und Leuchtkraft. Oft bleibt am unteren und / oberen Bildrand ein kleiner Streifen der unteren Schichten und Farben sichtbar. Die sanften Übergänge zwischen den Farbflächen eröffnen Assoziationen zu Horizonten und Landschaften, ohne konkret diese zu bezeichenen.
